How to Find the html Color Code of a Website Page

How many times are you wondering what the color code of an element of your (or someone else) blog/website is?

I know I often need to find out this information when adding Adsense on my sites. Indeed, it is always better to match your adsense ads border with the font of your theme. And because I am somewhat color blind it was a pain the neck to get the information in the html code of my site.

Introducing Colorzilla, a firefox plugin that will give you a little eyedropper in the status bar of your browser. When you’re on a page where you need to guess the html color code, just click on the icon and it will give you a little crosshair that you can point on any part of the site and there you go: the html color code of the part you clicked on will appear in the status bar.

Very neat and did I mention it is FREE!!

Another Use of Negative Keywords

Most of the people using google adwords for ther affiliate efforts know that using negative keywords such as “free”, “pictures”, “torrent” etc… can dramatically improve your ctr. But there are other less obvious keywords that you should add as negative keywords at the ad group level.

Let me explain: say you are using 2 different ad groups with, in ad group 1, the broad keyword “sell my car” and in ad group 2 the keyword “selling my car”.

Sometimes google will trigger the ad in adgroup 1 for the keyword “selling my car” resulting in: a lower ctr as your ad in ad group 1 won’t be as targeted for this keyword as the one in ad group 2 might be, and also can cause the following thing to happen for your keyword in ad group 2: “This particular search term is already associated with an ad from one of your other campaigns or ad groups. Only one ad per advertiser may appear on a given page per search term. When two or more of your ads are eligible for a single search term, we show the one with the highest ranking at the moment.”

There is a little trick to make sure that ads aren’t shown for keywords within another adgroup: you simply have to add keyword 2, in this case “selling my car” as a negative in ad group 1.

That way ads are only shown for the keyword within that adgroup, not for keywords in other adgroups! You then have a more targeted ad group and a better chance at improving your ctr.

To summarise you should list all of the keywords in each of your ad groups and add them as negative keywords in all of the other groups.

Useful WordPress Plugins

I have been willing to post about my favourite WordPress Plugins for a long time but I wanted to be sure that I choose the most useful ones for SEO and monetization purposes.

All the plugins in the following list are free and can be easily found by typing their name in the search box for new plugins in your WordPress admin panel. Some of them need an activation code (namely the Maxblogpress ones) and I have linked them to their download pages.

So here you have it, 12 of the most useful WordPress Plugins:

Headspace 2 (alternative: all-in-one seo): very useful to optimize your posts for Search engines
cforms II: Creates a very fancy and easy to tweak contact page
Feedwordpress: useful if you want to add content on your blog from targeted feeds
Google analytics for WP: unables you to easily add Analytics to your blog
Google XML Sitemap: creates a sitemap to be crawled by search engines, updates with any changes on your blog
MaxBlogPress Favicon: To easily add a favicon to your blog
MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer: (so that you are not flagged as a spammer, especially if you update your blog quite often)
Max Banner Ads: to easily add and rotate banners in your wordpress blog
Privacy Policy: it says it all, adds a nice privacy policy to your site
Subscribe-remind: increases your rss subsribers by adding by adding some text at the end of each of your post inviting readers to subscribe to your feed
Sitemap Generator: adds a sitemap page to your blog
Yet another related post: gives you a list of posts and/or pages related to the current entry, introducing the reader to other relevant content on your site

Comments on the Blog are now DoFollow

I have decided to use the plugin DoFollow to allow dofollow links in the comments part of my blog for the folowing reasons:

I like to post comments on other’s blogs and like to get some link juice back to my own blog so it is only fair that I allow this on my site as well
When a comment is constructive and somebody takes time to actually say something about what you have just written I think it is the least you can do to reward them with some backlinking love!

Spreadsheet Editing in Google

I have often used spreadsheets when dealing with my adwords accounts to better keep track off things and do stuff I couldn’t with the adwords editor.

I’m sure I’m not the only one to do that and it seems today Google is trying to help us by giving us spreadsheets directly inside our account.

You can now indeed find a Spreadsheet Edit Mode in The keywords tab of any ad group, under the “More Actions” Menu. So you will now be able to use formulas to edit your keywords and bids. For instance, if you want your ad to show on the first page but your bid is lower than the first page bid, you can set up a formula to address the issue.

I surely enjoy this welcome addition to the newly improved Google adwords interface and I’m certain you will too.

200$ Profit from Amazon

As Promised I had a look at the number and so far my Blasts brought in 200$ in Profit, not great but not bad either when you take into account that those profits can be recurrent, as long as those products sell and the competition is not too fierce.

It definitively makes me wanna go for more Amazon Blasts in the near future!!
